CAPPA Canada Postpartum Doula Training:

Postpartum doulas are becoming a valued part of the postpartum family. Studies show that postpartum support increases the success rate for breastfeeding, lowers the chances of postpartum mood disorder and makes for happier postpartum families.

This 2 day training will prepare you to work with families and their newborn babies. Upon completion of this training you will have an understanding of the postpartum woman and her newborn (or newborns) and the support that is necessary to help them through the vital first weeks. This will include basic breastfeeding techniques, the signs and symptoms of postpartum mood disorder, an understanding of good communication skills, and you will have developed a resource list for your area. This training is one step towards certifying as a Postpartum Doula with CAPPA Canada.

Breastfeeding - Starting Out Right

Breastfeeding is the natural and most nutritious way of feeding babies. It is also a learned art that can take patience and guidance. The trick to breastfeeding well is getting the baby to latch on properly. A baby who latches on well, gets milk well. A baby who latches on poorly has difficulty getting milk. In this 2 hour class proper latch techniques are demonstrated through video and practical hands on experience in a relaxing atmosphere. A follow up breastfeeding visit after the birth of your baby is included.

Happiest Baby on the Block and Baby's First Massage

We have combined two of our favourite classes into one. You will learn the secrets of the Happiest Baby on the Block and Baby's First Massage, in one informative session.
A new parent’s top job is to love their baby like crazy. But, their next most important jobs are to feed their baby successfully and to calm her when she cries. Parents who struggle with either of these tasks may feel frustrated and desperate. Many are shocked to discover their baby’s screaming is their biggest challenge. After the firs few weeks of life, one in five babies cries for hours a day…for no apparent reason. In this class we give moms, dads and other family members the tools they need to help infants sleep longer and calm unhappy babies almost as easily as…turning off a light.

Newborn massage is a powerful, happy way to become acquainted with your new baby. You can learn early communication while giving your baby gentle but potent nerve and muscle stimulation. This type of touch assists with digestion, elimination, healing, growth, and deeper sleep. Newborns have special needs to consider during massage. This class introduces supportive, protective massage while you learn early infant communication and how to respond to it in a satisfying way. This class is for parents or caregivers and their newborns up through the first four weeks of life. Ideally, these classes are best taken prenatally so parents can be ready to massage and calm their babies as soon after birth as possible. However, they may also be taken after the birth of your baby.
